JIM YOUNG
Financial Development Consultant

Jim began his career in higher education and research focusing on athletic performance and coaching. With a BA in Education from Northern Kentucky University and a Masters in Exercise Physiology from Texas A&M, Jim went on to teach at the university level, publish multiple research papers and perform research and testing for the U.S. Olympic Committee.

It was Jim’s love for wildlife conservation that first led him into fundraising and development work as a Regional Director for Ducks Unlimited (DU) in 1991. His success soon led to multiple moves across the U.S. and Canada diagnosing and turning around underperforming fundraising regions. Multiple turnarounds, development of creative new strategies and fundraising techniques resulted in Jim taking the lead of DU’s Grassroots organization, generating $100 million dollars in grassroots revenues, 60,000 volunteers and over 600,00 members annually. Within 6 months Jim and his team reversed a 5-year decline, return to growth that continued until Jim’s departure several years later.

In 2010, Jim followed his desire to serve Christ becoming SVP of Marketing, Development and Communications for one of the nation’s largest ministries, The Navigators. Taking responsibility for a declining donor base and stagnant income, Jim used his research and analytical skills to diagnose the problems and implement new strategies. Then, using his coaching skills, developed a team that led the declining 5-million-dollar organizational funding program to grow from less than 40,000 donors to over 200,000 in less than 6 years while growing net revenue from the Development function 10-fold.

In Jim’s last role he served as Executive Vice President of Partner Relationships for Living on the Edge with Chip Ingram where he again helped the ministry diagnosis a variety of weaknesses and developed strategies to address them. The organization is now experiencing 20% annual growth. Jim is proud to continue to serve Living on the Edge as one of his first consulting clients.

Jim seeks to partner with faith-based and other non-profits to maximize the effectiveness of their donor development teams. With experience in all aspects of Development, Jim can provide an effective audit and analysis of any size program and develop plans to address weaknesses, returning growth and health to the organizations funding efforts.
